Dhaka:Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is actively working to ensure footpaths are free from hawkers and to create a clean, dengue-free environment for the city's residents, according to DNCC Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the administrator made these remarks during the inauguration of a dengue mosquito larvae destruction and weekly cleanliness campaign held at Manik Mia Avenue in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The event saw participation from volunteers of the Red Crescent, BD Clean, and residents from various areas, including Tejgaon, Mohammadpur, Indira Road, and Rajabazar.
The DNCC has been running its special cleanliness and awareness campaign every Saturday for the last three months. Health officials and magistrates from the corporation are conducting operations at government buildings, residential areas, and abandoned sites to locate and destroy Aedes mosquito larvae. Residents have been urged to maintain cleanliness in their homes and business premises.
Currently, the number of dengue patients in the DNCC area is comparatively low, with approximately 80 patients receiving treatment at different hospitals. The administrator believes that through joint efforts with city residents, the number of dengue cases can be reduced to zero.
Regular discussions between the DNCC, local housing societies, owners' associations, and business organizations are being held to implement the government's 90-day special program. Additionally, the footpath in front of Hope Market in Ward 10, previously occupied illegally, has been successfully reclaimed, and similar efforts will continue to facilitate public convenience.
Monitoring teams, including local residents, city corporation members, and traffic police, have been formed to prevent the reoccupation of footpaths. The DNCC administrator called for cooperation from the media and people from all walks of life to support the city's development and mosquito control activities. DNCC officials were present at the event.
