Dhaka Court Sentences Man to Life Imprisonment for 2016 Murder

Dhaka: A Dhaka court today sentenced Masum Miah, also known as Kalu, to life imprisonment and fined him Taka 10,000 for the murder of grocery shop owner Abdul Quddus in the capital's Bongshal area in 2016. Judge Md Sadekin Habib Bappi of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-6 delivered the verdict, while another accused, Eunus Miah, was acquitted as the charges against him were not proven, public prosecutor Habibur Rahman informed BSS.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents revealed that a group of muggers attacked Abdul Quddus in the early hours of September 10, 2016, in the Siddiqbazar area of Bongshal. The assailants attempted to rob Quddus, and upon his resistance, they fatally stabbed him.

The victim's cousin, Md Kamal Hossain, lodged a complaint with Bongshal Police Station, leading to the police filing a charge sheet against two individuals on November 10, 2016. The court framed charges against the accused on March 7, 2017, and during the trial, 15 out of 18 prosecution witnesses were examined over several hearings.
