DHAKA, Dhaka Division secured their second straight
victory in the 25th National Cricket League (NCL) after beating Sylhet
Division by seven wickets at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra today.
Left-arm spinner Najmul Islam Apu claimed 5-38 as Dhaka dismissed Sylhet for
116 on day three, giving them a 73-run to win the game in Tier-1.
They reached 75-3 to ensure the victory inside three days with opener Abdul
Majid remaining not out on 26. Nabil Samad took 2-32 for Sylhet.
Captain Zakir Hasan scored 85 as Sylhet were bowled out for 212 in its first
innings after opting to bat first.
Pacer Sumon Khan scalped 5-47 while Apu and Salahuddin Shakil grabbed two
wickets apiece.
Rony Talukdar made 63 and Shuvagata Hom scored 52 as Dhaka took a 44-run lead
in the first innings, after putting up 256 all out.
Apu was adjudged man of the match for his seven wickets in the match.
In another Tier-1 game, Dhaka Metro need 235 runs with eight wickets at hands
to seal their second victory in a row after they put up 176-2 against Rangpur
Division at stumps on day three at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Opener Naim Sheikh was not on 96 and will be crucial in Metro's victory on
final day.
Being sent to bat first Rangpur was all out for 119 and Metro took 54-run
lead, after piling up 173 all out in first innings. But Rangpur bounced back
nicely to rack up 464 before being bundled out in their second innings,
setting Metro a 411-run target to win the game. Nobin Islam hit 145 not out
while Anik Sarker fell for nervous 99.
Khulna Division sensed a second straight victory in Tier-2 of NCL as they
need just 31 for a victory against Chattogram in Sylhet International Cricket
Stadium. In another Tier-2 game, Barishal were on course of their first
victory as they require 58-run to win their match against Rajshahi Division
at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
