Dhaka Abahani lose valuable points

Abahani Limited Dhaka lost their valuable points on way to their title race as they suffered a 2-3 goal defeat to Chittagong Abahani Limited in the Bangladesh Premier League football held today (Friday) at Shaheed Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

In the day's match, Nigerian forward Ojukwu David Ifegwu scored a brace while forward Ekbal Hussain supported him with a lone goal for Chittagong Abahani Limited who led the first half by 3-1 goals. Syrian defender Yousef Mohammad struck twice for Abahani Limited Dhaka.

Ifegwu gave Chittagong Abahani Limited a deserving lead early in the 7th minute but Yousef leveled the margin for Abahani Limited Dhaka in the 18th minute of the match.

Chittagong Abahani took lead again as Ekbal scored the second goal in the 35th minute and Ifegwu further widened Chittagong Abahani's margin scoring his second and third goal for his team in the 40th minute of the match.

After the resumption, Yousef reduced the margin scoring his second goal for Abahani Limited Dhaka in the 64th minute of the match.

Abahani Limited Dhaka however tried their best to stage a fight back creating some scoring chances, but could not convert any due to lack of proper finishing in the remaining proceeding.

The day's win saw, the port city team Chittagong Abahani Limited move up to ninth position with 13 points from 14 matches while the traditional sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Limited, who stand in second position in the league table, remained at their previous collection of 30 points playing 15 outings.

Earlier, in the first phase, Dhaka Abahani Limited thrashed Chittagong Abahani Limited by 5-1 goals held at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.

Saturday's matches: Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society meet Fortis Football Club at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj and Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra face Azampur Football Club Uttara at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mqani Stadium in Gopalganj.

Both the matches kick off at 4 pm.
