Dhaka: The Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Plan International Bangladesh to enhance access to reproductive health and wellbeing services for adolescents and youth across the country.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the MoU was signed at a formal ceremony held at the DGFP conference room in Karwan Bazar. The event marked a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening public health service delivery for young people. Director General of DGFP Dr Ashrafi Ahmad and Country Director of Plan International Bangladesh Kabita Bose were present at the ceremony, along with senior officials from both organisations.

The collaboration seeks to address key gaps in adolescent and youth health services by leveraging DGFP’s nationwide service network alongside Plan International Bangladesh’s technical expertise. The initiative is set to focus on enhancing service quality and accessibility, while integrating mental health and psychosocial support, youth engagement, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and climate resilience into adolescent care.

During the event, Dr Ashrafi Ahmad highlighted the longstanding partnership between Plan International Bangladesh and DGFP, noting the significant contributions made in promoting adolescent and youth reproductive health and rights. He expressed optimism that the MoU would lead to meaningful outcomes for adolescent wellbeing in Bangladesh.

Kabita Bose emphasized that ensuring access to reproductive health and wellbeing services for adolescents and youth is a health priority and a human right. She noted that the partnership would help strengthen the national health system by addressing the interconnected challenges of sexual and reproductive health and rights, mental health, and climate vulnerability affecting young people.

Under the MoU, Plan International Bangladesh will offer technical support to DGFP to improve service delivery models, support the capacity building of health service providers, and promote youth participation in health governance.
