Depression Over Northwest Bay Brings Rain to Dhaka and Surrounding Areas

Dhaka: The well-marked low over Northwest Bay and adjoining areas intensified into a depression, leading to rainfall in various parts of the country, including the capital, Dhaka.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a Met office bulletin reported that in the last 24 hours until 6:00 am today, Dhaka experienced 6mm of rainfall, while Cox’s Bazar recorded 76mm, Patuakhali 71mm, and Hatiya 65mm. Other areas such as Koyra, Kutibdia, Mongla, Chittagong, and Sandwip also witnessed significant rainfall, with measurements of 49mm, 57mm, 40mm, 35mm, and 29mm respectively. Additional locations like Badalgachhi, Bhola, Bandarban, Khepupara, Sylhet, Srimangal, Barishal, Sitakunda, Rangamati, Netrokona, Faridpur, and Aricha recorded rainfall ranging from 11mm to 25mm.



The bulletin indicated that the depression over the Northwest Bay might move northwards and intensify further. The southwest monsoon has progressed to Barishal, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Mymensingh divisions, as well as the eastern part of the Dhaka division. It also forecasts light to moderate rain or thunder showers with lightning and temporary gusty or squally winds in most places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Some areas might experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall.



The bulletin further noted that the day temperature could decrease by 1-2°C, with a slight drop in night temperatures across the country. Wednesday’s maximum temperature was recorded at 37 degrees Celsius in Dimla, while today’s minimum was 24 degrees Celsius in Bandarban. The sun is expected to set at 06:41 pm today and rise at 05:11 am tomorrow in the capital.
