Dengue: 176 new cases reported

Another 176 people were hospitalised with dengue – a viral infection – in the 24 hours till Sunday morning.

Of them, 144 were admitted to the hospitals of Dhaka and 32 outside it, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

As many as 613 dengue patients, including 507 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

This year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease rose to 19 Sunday with one more death reported from Dhaka. Of all the deceased, 10 were from Cox’s Bazar and nine from Dhaka.

On June 21, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease.

This year, the directorate has recorded 5,492 dengue cases and 4,860 recoveries so far.
