Dhaka: National Citizen Party (NCP) Member-Secretary Akhter Hossain declared that the death sentence handed down to Sheikh Hasina for crimes against humanity represents ‘appropriate justice.’ He urged both the Bangladesh government to swiftly enforce the verdict and the Indian government to return her to Dhaka. “The death sentence is the appropriate justice for Sheikh Hasina. Only by enforcing this verdict can justice be delivered for genocide and crimes against humanity,” he stated in a video message sent to the media today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akhter claimed that Sheikh Hasina committed genocide and crimes against humanity and emphasized that India should not provide her shelter. “We call upon the Government of India not to give refuge to Sheikh Hasina. She carried out genocide against the people of Bangladesh and committed crimes against humanity. India must hand her over to Bangladesh’s justice system,” he asserted.
He further alleged that the trial had proven Sheikh Hasina not only delivered provocative statements but also ordered the use of lethal force. “She directed shootings, instructed the use of deadly weapons, mobilised the entire force to kill people, and even had civilians burned to death,” he claimed.
Akhter argued that the announced punishment reflected only a small portion of numerous crimes, adding that full justice would be achieved only when all such allegations are addressed. He expressed hope that the enforcement of the sentence would set a global example, preventing future rulers from becoming perpetrators of genocide or crimes against humanity.
“We believe the souls of the martyrs will find peace not just through the announcement but through the execution of the verdict. We urge the government to enforce the death sentence on Sheikh Hasina without delay,” Akhter said.
