Chandpur: Faridganj upazila triumphed over Matlab Dakhin upazila with a 2-1 score in the opening match of the 21st Deputy Commissioner Gold Cup Football tournament, which commenced in Chandpur district today. The tournament’s inauguration was marked by Chandpur District Sports Association convener and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mohsin Uddin, who served as the chief guest and released balloons to celebrate the occasion.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the opening ceremony was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Md. Ershad Uddin. The event was attended by notable figures, including District Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdur Rakib, Municipal Administrator Md. Golam Zakaria, District BNP General Secretary Adv. Salim Ullah Selim, District Jamaat Secretary Adv. Md. Shahjahan Mia, District Gono Odhikar Parishad President Kazi Russell, and District National Citizens Party’s Chief Coordinator Md. Mahbub Alam, alongside district administration officials and other stakeholders.
The tournament features participation from eight teams, each representing an upazila within the district, showcasing local talent and fostering community spirit through the sport of football.
