Dhaka: A court here today sent four leaders of Bangladesh Awami League (AL), including the panel mayor of Manikganj Pourashava, Md Arshad Ali Biswas, to jail for organizing an anti-state procession in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the other individuals sent to jail include Vice-President of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Government Titumir College Unit, Avimannu Biswas Avi, aged 35, former Vice-President of BCL Lalbagh Thana Unit, Md Belal Hossain Tuhin, aged 30, and Awami Sheshchhasebok League leader, Aminul Haque Faysal, aged 46. All four accused were presented before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Partha Bhadra, where the prosecution requested their confinement in jail until the completion of the investigation into the case filed against them. Following the hearing, the court ordered their detention.
Police arrested the four leaders on Monday night in front of Rampura Television Centre. The prosecution revealed that the arrested individuals, along with their accomplices, organized an anti-government procession on May 18, which stretched from Malibagh rail gate to Mouchak. The procession aimed to disrupt public safety and security, allegedly conspiring to execute destructive acts. The group, operating under the banner of a banned political party, reportedly chanted aggressive and anti-state slogans during the event.
In response to these actions, police filed a case with the city's Shahjahanpur Thana under the anti-terrorism act.
