DB Apprehends 13 Awami League Members Amid Anti-Government Protests

Dhaka: The Detective Branch (DB) of police has detained 13 leaders and activists associated with the Awami League (AL), whose activities are currently banned, along with members from its affiliated organizations. The arrests took place across various locations in the capital city over the past 24 hours.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, these individuals were apprehended due to their alleged involvement in disrupting the law and order situation by organizing anti-government flash processions throughout the capital. The police press release provided detailed identification of those arrested, highlighting their affiliations and positions within the party and its subsidiaries.



The individuals taken into custody include Muhammad Anisur Rahman, an AL Central Executive Committee Member, and Kazi Ainul Asif, vice president of Khilkhet Thana Chhatra League. Other notable figures include Mohammad Nisar Ali, former chairman of Bankra Union in Jhikargachha Upazila, Jessore, and joint general secretary of Bankra Union Awami League, as well as Dhaka City South Sutrapur Thana Awami Matsyajibi League’s joint general secretary, Md. Aminul Haque Faisal.



Additional arrests comprise Chhatra League activist Md. Akash, Dhaka South City Legal Affairs Secretary Md. Mursalin Talukder, and AL activist Md. Ripon. Also among those detained are Md. Mahbubul Islam, a former president of Barguna District Amtoli Upazila Chhatra League, and Nusrat Jahan Lima, president of Barguna District Amtoli Upazila Women Awami League.



The list further includes ASM Al Sonet, former organizing secretary of Dhaka University’s Sir AF Rahman Hall Chhatra League, Md. Belal Hossain Tuhin, former vice-president of Lalbagh Thana Chhatra League, Md. Arshed Ali Biswas, president of Manikganj Municipality Awami League, and Abhimunya Biswas Abhi, former Chhatra League vice-president at Titumir College.



These individuals face multiple charges in different cases, as specified by the police. The arrests underscore the ongoing tension and efforts to manage public order amid political unrest.
