Over 5 Lakh People Benefit from Government-Funded Legal Aid

Dhaka: Over 507,228 individuals have received free legal assistance through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), as detailed in a recent report.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the report, which was published on the NLASO website, outlines the extent of legal aid provided from 2009 to August 2025, revealing that 438,474 cases involving disadvantaged litigants were supported under the government’s legal aid framework during this period.



The report specifies that 26,388 individuals obtained free legal advice through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, while 268,521 people accessed services via legal aid offices in all 64 districts. Furthermore, the report highlights specialized support for the labor sector, noting that 21,747 workers were assisted through dedicated legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.



These services are offered under the Legal Aid Services Act, designed to ensure access to justice for financially insolvent and disadvantaged litigants. The activities are administered under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
