Daily Samakal sustains popularity among readers: Hasan

Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the daily Samakal has earned popularity among the readers and maintained it till now on the way to its 18-year journey.

"I hope the daily Samakal will sustain for more hundred years. And the newspaper would work to build the nation alongside being the mirror of the society," he said.

The minister said this while addressing a function at Times Media Bhaban marking the 18th founding anniversary of the daily Samakal in the city.

Editor of the newspaper Alamgir Hossain, city editor Shahed Chowdhury and chief reporter Lotan Ekram, among others, were present in the function.

Dr Hasan hoped that the daily Samakal and other mass media would criticise the responsible persons and present the development and progress of the state.

He also hoped that the newspaper would play a role in the ongoing development of the country under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Recalling his childhood memories, the minister said, "In my childhood, I wrote in the pages of children of different newspapers. I became excited when my write-ups were published in newspapers. I showed those to my seniors."

Dr Hasan urged all newspapers to publish a page dedicated to the children.
