Cyclone Amphan: Local Government Division opens control room

The Local Government Division under the Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Ministry opened a control room at the secretariat to deal with various issues related to cyclone Amphan.

 

The control room can be contacted at 9573625, said a press release.

 

To ensure pure drinking water, Public Health Engineering Department installed 15 water plants and reserved one million water purifying tablets in the coastal districts.

 

It also sent three mobile water treatment plants, 500 hygiene kits, one water carrier, soap, hand sanitisers, bleaching powder, instruments of tube-well and temporary toilet and tube-well mechanics to each coastal district that area likely to be impacted by the cyclone.

 

Measures were taken to keep the road network uninterrupted and provide pure drinking water, solar electricity and ensure proper sewerage system in the shelters during the disaster.

 

Super cyclone ‘Amphan’ made landfall in West Bengal in the afternoon.

 

The maximum sustained wind speed within 80km of the cyclone centre is about 180kph rising to 200kph in gusts/squalls. The sea will remain very high near the cyclone centre.

 

The maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist great danger signal number 10 while Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar were advised to hoist great danger signal number 9.
