Rajshahi:A discussion on cyber security aimed at preventing violence against women was held at the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Headquarters Conference Room today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was organized by Coalition, Rajshahi, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, and Banhishikha, under the theme "Strengthen intergenerational and inclusive women's movements." RMP Commissioner Mohammad Foijul Kabir attended as the chief guest, while Professor Dr. Abdul Alim from the Department of Law at Rajshahi University served as the keynote speaker.
The Police Commissioner emphasized that controlling cybercrime requires more than just law enforcement; it necessitates heightened awareness among individuals, families, and society. He pointed out the challenges posed by the lack of local offices of international social media platforms, which hinders prompt action against cybercrimes like fake IDs, ID hacking, and blackmail using personal content.
He urged women and students to be particularly vigilant about these issues. Moreover, he highlighted the need for effective law enforcement, speedy justice, and legal reforms to address the country's reality. Families and educational institutions must also play a crucial role in preventing juvenile involvement in crime.
The commissioner also addressed privacy violations and blackmail, stating that recording audio or video without consent for purposes of humiliation or blackmail is a serious offense. He underscored the importance of not harassing innocent individuals through false accusations.
He stressed the need for immediate victim support, including safe shelters, medical and psychological care, and long-term rehabilitation. To protect women and children and combat cybercrime, coordinated efforts from the police, public, families, educational institutions, media, and all relevant parties are essential.
The meeting was attended by various ranks of RMP officers and employees, representatives from concerned organizations, women's rights activists, lawyers, and members of different professions and classes.
