Dhaka: The Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has urged the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to set up emergency medical services at all cricket grounds in the country. The appeal comes in response to a series of recent incidents involving fatalities and health emergencies at cricket venues.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the call from CWAB follows the death of Barishal Division physio Hasan Ahmed, who passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest during a National Cricket League (NCL) match against Khulna at the Khulna Divisional Stadium. CWAB highlighted the necessity of having ambulances on-site at every venue to address any health-related crises promptly.

CWAB President Mohammad Mithun emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that there have been four heart-related incidents this year alone. He insisted that the BCB must prioritize the safety of everyone involved in cricket matches and take immediate action.

Among the incidents, security officer Ikram Chowdhury died of a heart attack during a Bangladesh-Zimbabwe Test match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in April. Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal also suffered a heart attack in May during the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at BKSP in Savar, though he has since recovered. Another recent incident involved a stadium worker named Romel who experienced a heart attack.

CWAB remains hopeful that the BCB will heed their request and implement necessary emergency medical services at all cricket venues to prevent further tragedies.
