Dhaka: BNP lawmaker Md Manirul Haque Chowdhury raised alarms in Parliament over the non-existence of a stadium reportedly listed as “Cumilla South Mini Stadium,” which, according to official records, should be located in Cumilla. During a discussion on urgent public matters, he called for the Prime Minister’s intervention to “locate and recover” the project.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the MP from Cumilla-6 stated that the initiative to establish the stadium began following the creation of Cumilla Sadar South upazila in 2004. However, he later discovered that the project had been abandoned and funds misappropriated. Despite repeated searches, no stadium by that name could be found in Cumilla, leading to claims of discrepancies in official records.
“The government says the stadium exists. But no such facility could be found anywhere in the district,” Manirul Haque asserted, highlighting negligence in land records, misappropriation of sports equipment, and looting of allocated funds. He further alleged that documents related to land acquisition and allocation for the stadium had vanished, urging that the facility must be recovered in light of his long-standing association with sports.
The parliamentary session took a turn when the lawmaker’s microphone was switched off, curtailing further elaboration on the issue.
