Cumilla: Police arrested Advocate Zahirul Islam Selim, vice president of the Cumilla Metropolitan Awami League on allegations of conspiring to incite unrest through a virtual meeting with Sheikh Hasina.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahinul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station, stated that Selim was detained from his residence in the Dakshin Charta area of Cumilla city around 2am on Thursday.

Police sources indicated that the arrest followed a virtual meeting held on Wednesday between former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several leaders of the Cumilla Metropolitan Awami League, including former Cumilla Sadar MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar. They reportedly planned to create chaos throughout Cumilla during this meeting. Considering the allegations, Advocate Zahirul Islam Selim was subsequently arrested.
