Chattogram: A new ICD-based custom house will be established in Chattogram. Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Abdur Rahman Khan made this announcement during a meeting with custom officials and stakeholders at the Chattogram Custom House today. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khan stated that a government order regarding the establishment would be issued next month. He mentioned that the current Chattogram Custom House building will be demolished to make way for a new structure. During the construction period, the custom house activities will be temporarily shifted to the World Trade Center in Agrabad. Khan also addressed the complexity of the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA), noting that its brand value has decreased. As a result, there are plans to develop new modern technology within the next two years. Stakeholders from the Chattogram Custom House and C and F agents discussed various issues related to the unloading of goods from the port and ICD. The NBR Chairman assu red the stakeholders that support would be provided to honest and reputed businesspersons. Steps are being taken to develop new software to ensure efficiency and prevent disruptions in work. This new system will be experimentally implemented in a few customs stations initially, with the entire process expected to take at least two years. Khan further announced that initiatives have been taken to build three iconic buildings in Chattogram, including the new Chattogram Custom House. Present at the meeting were NBR members Moazzam Hossain, Kazi Mostafizur Rahman, Mubinul Kabir, CCH Shafi Uddin, and leaders of the Customs Officers C and F Agents Association.
