Ctg freight train derailment: 3 wagons yet to be removed

The authorities concerned could not remove three wagons of a diesel-carrying freight train that derailed in the port city’s Halishahar area on Wednesday even after 18 hours of the accident.

The Railway authorities, however, said they have been working to recover the wagons.

On the other hand, Department of Environment (DoE) said the oil from the wagons has spilled into croplands and water bodies through the nearby Maheshkhali Khal (canal), posing risks to land and environment.

Around 40,000 litres of oil spilled from the wagons, the DoE authorities said after a visit there.

The derailment occurred on Wednesday evening when the train was entering Chittagong Goods Port Yard (CGPY) depot after loading diesel from depots of Padma, Megha and Jamuna in Patenga area.
