Bangladesh have heaved a sigh of relief at having won Tuesday’s match against Oman in the T20 World Cup, according to allrounder Shakib Al Hasan.
The Tigers had lost their first match against Scotland in the World Cup.
In this win, Shakib guided the Tigers from the front, scoring 42 runs and taking three wickets, which helped him bag the player of the match award as well.
To qualify for the Super 12s of the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh now need to beat Papua New Guinea in the last match of Group B in Round 1.
โIt was so shocking to endure a defeat against Scotland, but we have to give credit to them as they played better cricket on that day,โ Shakib told the media on Tuesday.
โThe win against Oman came as a relief for us. I think it will change the environment of our dressing room. Oman have also played really well,” he said.
Bangladesh made some unusual changes to the batting line-up against Oman. Instead of Shakib, Bangladesh sent Mahedi Hasan to bat at number three. Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim went to bat at number seven and eight, respectively.
Shakib said these changes are common in T20 cricket. “The decision was made according to the consideration of the coach and the captain,โ Shakib told the media. โWe sent the batters who are capable of doing well at that stage of the game. At one point we thought we could score 170-180. Itโs common in T20 cricket.”
In the last two matches of Group B in Round 1, Bangladesh will take on Papua New Guinea, while Scotland will face Oman.
Scotland have already won two matches, while Oman and Bangladesh registered one win each. If Bangladesh can beat Papua New Guinea and Scotland defeat Oman, the Tigers will march to the Super 12s.
