Thakurgaon: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Asif Akbar has reaffirmed the board’s commitment to promoting cricket development beyond the capital city of Dhaka. During a visit to the Thakurgaon District Stadium on Thursday, he outlined a long-term plan to enhance cricket infrastructure across the nation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asif Akbar attended an age-based cricket development programme at the Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium, organized by the District Sports Association. He emphasized the need to extend cricket facilities and opportunities beyond Dhaka, stating that the board is actively assessing cricket conditions in various districts. Akbar highlighted improvements in the board’s condition and expressed optimism about Thakurgaon’s potential for cricket development.

Asif Akbar noted the current state of Thakurgaon Stadium and pointed out several infrastructural needs. These include a separate dressing room for female players, an indoor playground, improved training facilities, net practice arrangements, and comprehensive ground renovation. He assured that the BCB would soon provide all necessary support and materials to address these needs.

Addressing broader social issues, Akbar acknowledged the challenges Thakurgaon faces as a border district, particularly concerning drug-related problems. He mentioned ongoing efforts to engage students from schools and madrasas in sports as a means to combat drug abuse. Additionally, Akbar announced the creation of separate age-based sections to ensure children have access to sports facilities and called for cooperation from all stakeholders.

The event also featured speeches from BCB Director Hasanuzzaman, GD Member Secretary Armanul Islam, and BCB umpire Shakir, among others.
