Dhaka: Former home adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that the credit for conducting a free, transparent, and credible election goes to all parties involved. 'The credit for holding the 13th parliamentary election fairly goes to all including the Home Ministry, law enforcement agencies and officials involved in the electoral process,' he remarked.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, he made these comments while speaking as the chief guest at a farewell reception organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat. During the ceremony, Chowdhury described the 13th national parliament election as the 'most fair, acceptable and festive' one in the country's history. He noted that during a recent special cabinet meeting, the Chief Adviser highly praised the Ministry of Home Affairs and law enforcement agencies for ensuring a peaceful electoral environment.
Chowdhury expressed his happiness at being able to contribute to a free, fair, and impartial election, noting that after the Election Commission, the Ministry of Home Affairs shouldered the most significant responsibility in conducting the national elections. He expressed deep gratitude to the ministry's officials and employees, stating he was in the 'fourth quarter' of his life and sought prayers from colleagues for a peaceful and happy future with his family.
In a briefing to journalists, Chowdhury extended his thanks to media members for their role over the past one and a half years of his tenure. He acknowledged that the media consistently highlighted the ministry's activities and pointed out shortcomings, aiding authorities in making informed decisions. Describing the media as the 'fourth pillar' of the state, he emphasized its integral role in any democratic structure, contributing to accountability and transparency in society. He expressed hope that the media would continue to uphold this important responsibility in the future.
