Khulna: The prevalence of coronavirus and dengue has reportedly declined in Khulna. Deputy civil surgeon Dr. Sarkat Md. Rezwanul Haque shared this observation during the monthly meeting of the district development coordination committee.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Sarkat emphasized the importance of removing stagnant water from flower tubs, coconut shells, old tires, or similar containers to prevent dengue. He also announced that typhoid vaccination would begin under the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) from October, stressing the need for public awareness in this regard.

The meeting took place on Sunday at the conference room of the Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC), presided over by DC Md. Saiful Islam. DC Saiful Islam highlighted that waterlogging remains a significant issue in various parts of Khulna, although recent initiatives have somewhat alleviated public suffering. He assured attendees that permanent solutions to the district’s waterlogging problems are being pursued.

Efforts to address waterlogging, especially in the flood-prone Fultala and Dumuria areas around Beel Dakatia, include the opening of the Sholmari sluice gate and the installation of pumps to drain water. These measures aim to facilitate Aman paddy cultivation during the current season.

At the meeting, Islamic Foundation assistant director Muhammad Ashraf Ali announced that pre-registration for Hajj in 2026, both under government and private management, will be open until October 12. He assured that those who register by depositing Tk 30,000 will face no risk of fraud under government arrangements and will receive all entitled facilities during Hajj.

Meanwhile, district fisheries officer Md. Badruzzaman declared that the National Fisheries Week will commence on Monday. The program will begin at 9:00 am with the release of fingerlings into the pond at Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna city, followed by a colorful rally and a discussion at the DC’s conference room.
