Dhaka: A court here today scrapped a bail plea for Mollah Jalal, former president of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), in a case lodged for allegedly abducting and attempting to rape a singer. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanom passed the order as Jalal’s counsel pleaded for bail on any condition for his client, considering his age.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jalal was arrested from the city’s Segunbagicha area on November 5 in the case filed by the victim under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Police said the victim, 50, filed the case against Mollah Jalal, 65, and his associate Soleman alias Selim, 54, on November 1.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Akhteruzzaman sent Mollah Jalal to jail on that day as police produced him before the court and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the completion of the probe.
