Dhaka: A court today ordered the freezing of 18 bank accounts belonging to former social welfare minister Dr. Dipu Moni over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order after accepting a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC submitted the plea to the court, indicating that they have already established a team to investigate the allegations against Dr. Dipu Moni. The anti-graft body expressed concerns that during the investigation, Dr. Moni might try to transfer her movable properties. As a result, they argued that freezing her bank accounts was necessary to ensure justice.
The court's decision marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into Dr. Moni's financial activities. The ACC's petition emphasized the importance of safeguarding assets that could potentially be involved in the graft allegations.
