Dhaka: A Dhaka court today ordered the freezing of six bank accounts belonging to former lawmaker of Netrokona-3 constituency, Ashim Kumar Ukil. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court’s vacation bench judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the petition filed by the ACC alleged that Ashim Kumar Ukil had been attempting to transfer, withdraw, or otherwise dispose of funds from the bank accounts in question. The ACC emphasized that if the assets were transferred or siphoned off, recovering the money later would become extremely difficult.

The ACC argued that it is necessary to freeze the accounts immediately to prevent any withdrawal or disposal of the funds. This move is seen as a precautionary measure to ensure the funds remain intact while investigations are ongoing.
