Court extends custody of Rai by seven days

District Police Office, Khotang has ordered a seven-day of extension of custody of agriculture expert and patron of Subhadra-Madan Foundation Madan Rai arrested on the charge of pedophilia to further probe the case.

Rai was arrested from Solma in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadi Municipality-2 in Khotang district last Friday for allegedly sexually molesting the children in the Foundation, in which Rai is the patron.

DSP at the District Police Office, Manjil Mukarung, shared that a victim filed the complaint against Rai in writing while three others verbally lodged complaints against him.

Action against Rai was taken forwarded as per the complaints filed by the victims, said DSP Mukarung.

"Since the case is under investigation, we cannot comment on it," informed DSP Mukarung, adding that three additional victims were also ready to file the complaints against the accused.

Police Inspector also Spokesperson at the District Police Office in Khotang, Benu Karki, shared that those who made verbal complaints against Rai were summoned to police station to file the complaints in writing.

The 75-year-old was lately found posting some contents in social networking sites using lewd words on the purpose of imparting sex education to students. The act courted criticisms from all quarters.

The news of sexual molestation of girls studying in the Foundation by patron Rai was doing rounds in various media since last Friday. Alleged Rai, taking to social networking sites, admitted that there was 40 per cent truth on the accusation made by the victims.

Meanwhile, Children as Zone of Peace National Campaign (CZOP), a coalition of organizations working in the field of child right, said that its attention was drawn towards the exploitation of girls.

The CZOP has demanded the sternest action against the culprit. The constitution stipulates anyone is convicted of exploitation of children in any forms or manifestation shall face three years of imprisonment and fine up to Rs 75,000.
