A Chapainawabganj court on Thursday
sentenced a couple to life-term imprisonment in a case filed over the murder
of a man in 2014.
The convicts are Md Khairul Islam, 49, son of Israil of Palsa Mission Bazar
under Baliadanga union of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila and his wife Lalbanu
alias Laili, 39.
Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 of Chapainawabganj Md. Rabiul Islam
gave the verdict in presence of convict Khairul.
The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default, they will have to
suffer six months more in jail.
Another accused of the case named Shafiqul Islam was acquitted as the charges
brought against him could not be proven, the court sources said.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convicted couple beat a man
named Jasim Uddin, son of Ameer Ali Master of Ushir Beldanga village under
Nachole upazila of the district, mercilessly to death on March 20, 2014
following a previous enmity.
Later on March 20, 2014, deceased’s father filed a murder case with
Chapainawabga
nj Sadar Model thana accusing nine people.
Investigating Officer of the case Additional Superintendent of Police Wares
Ali Mia submitted chargesheet against three persons to the court on October
23, 2017.
After hearing the witnesses, the court handed down the punishment.
