Dhaka: National Consensus Commission Vice-President Dr Ali Riaz stated today that the country has conducted at least three fair elections, but the defeated forces have not accepted the outcomes. He expressed these views during a round table discussion held in Gulshan. Dr Riaz emphasized that while elections are necessary for political change, the country has not transitioned into a full democracy because no specific institutions have been established to support this transformation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Secretary of Citizens for Good Governance (SHUJAN), highlighted that although there is unity among the people, political parties lack the goodwill required to implement it. He stressed the importance of students and teachers focusing on their respective fields to contribute positively.
Dr Tasnim Zara, Senior Joint Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), remarked that political parties are failing to meet the hopes and aspirations of the populace adequately. Zonayed Saki, Chief Coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolon, pointed out the necessity of legal obligations to resolve the mistrust among political parties concerning the implementation of reforms. He noted that while parties focus on their own agendas, the public is seeking a national consensus.
