Rangpur: Director General (Grade-1) of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) Mohammed Alim Akhter Khan emphasized that consumers' rights must be ensured through collective efforts. "The government has taken a tough stance against syndicates. Even so, public cooperation is very vital to break the syndicate," he stated during a seminar held at the conference room of the divisional commissioner, where he served as the chief guest. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar was organized by the Rangpur divisional administration and Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) under the theme 'Strengthening consumer rights protection activities of CAB in Rangpur division.' The event was chaired by the President of CAB Central Committee, Jamil Chowdhury. The Director General remarked that CAB is a self-serving organization and its members must work with a mindset geared towards providing services spontaneously. He highlighted the importance of CAB members initiating awareness-raisi ng activities for the benefit of common consumers. He further stated that traders who violate market laws should not only face fines but should also be subjected to exemplary punishment. He urged everyone to report any irregularities related to quality, quantity, or price increases to the DNCRP or local administrations. Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Asaduzzaman, Deputy Director (Additional Responsibilities) at the divisional office of the DNCRP Afsana Parvin, and CAB General Secretary Advocate Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan also spoke as special guests at the seminar. The event was attended by government officials, CAB representatives from various districts of the Rangpur division, and local journalists.
