A national consultation meeting titled "Recruitment for Overseas Employment: Opportunities and Challenges" was held at BRAC Centre here today.
BRAC, National Alliance for Migrants' Rights, Bangladesh and Bangladesh Civil Society Coordination Committee on GFMD organized the consultation meeting while Hasan Imam, Programme Head of Migration, BRAC presented the keynote paper.
Director General, (additional secretary) Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) Md Selim Reza addressed the consultation meeting as the chief guest while Md Ruhul Amin, Secretary General Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) addressed the function as special guest.
Former joint Secretary, ministry of expatriates' welfare and overseas employment, Kazi Abul Kalam, Deputy Chief (Planning and Development) of the ministry KM Ali Reza, Director (Training Standard and Planning) of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) Md Nurul Islam and Joint Secretary General of BAIRA Shameem Ahmed Chowdhury were also spoke in the meeting, among others.
Md Selim Reza said labor migration is one of the main sources of employment and poverty reduction of Bangladesh. The country has received US$ 14.9 billion as remittance in 2015-16 fiscal, he added.
