Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has raised concerns about ongoing conspiracies aimed at delaying or disrupting the forthcoming national elections in Bangladesh. Speaking at a rally in the Shaheed Rifat Park area of Daudkandi upazila, he urged the public to remain vigilant against such threats.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Mosharraf emphasized that the people of Bangladesh have been long deprived of their voting rights and are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to participate in the elections. He assured that the government formed through this election would genuinely represent the people, and those elected as Members of Parliament will be true representatives of the populace.
Dr. Mosharraf criticized the proportional representation (PR) system, arguing that MPs elected through this method would serve party interests rather than those of the people. He warned of various conspiracies intending to use the PR system as a pretext to disrupt or delay the elections and urged party members to organize and prepare to counter such plots.
He highlighted the government's announcement to hold the national election and a referendum simultaneously. The rally, which began at Shaheed Rifat Park, proceeded along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway before culminating at the Bishwa road Eidgah ground, with participants brandishing banners and festoons amidst slogans.
Speakers at the event included Cumilla North District unit of BNP Senior Joint Convener Abul Hashem Sarkar, Upazila BNP Convener M.A. Latif Bhuiyan, Joint Convener Jasim Uddin, and Municipal BNP Senior Joint Convener Sowgat Chowdhury Peter. The rally was chaired by Daudkandi Municipal BNP Convener Nur Mohammad Selim, with Upazila BNP Member Secretary VP Jahangir Alam and Municipal BNP Member Secretary Kawsar Alam Sarkar conducting proceedings.
The gathering saw participation from thousands of leaders, workers, and supporters from 15 unions of Daudkandi and nine wards of the municipality.
