Cumilla: Police have detained 44 leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League while they were preparing for a procession in the city on Sunday morning. Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance), Rashedul Haque Chowdhury, reported that 29 individuals were arrested from different areas in the city, including Tomcham Bridge, Jhautala, and Badurtala areas. An additional 15 people were arrested during a drive in several upazilas of the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station Mohinul Islam stated that leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League were preparing for a procession in the Tomsham Bridge area of the city around 6 am. Upon receiving information, police promptly arrived at the scene and arrested 29 people from Tomcham Bridge, Jhautala, and Badurtala areas. Banners, sticks, and lighters were seized from them.
The police action is part of intensified security measures in the region, as authorities continue efforts to clamp down on activities associated with banned organizations.
