The officer-in-charge of Manikganj’s Shivalaya Police Station has been withdrawn and attached to Madaripur district police lines on charges of negligence in duty following the alleged torture of a complainant at the police station.

OC M Shaheen was relieved on Monday after the Dhaka Range Police Deputy Inspector General Habibur Rahman found his negligence, said Superintendent of Police Golam Azad Khan.

Besides, Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Apu Mohant has been asked to investigate the allegations against OC Shaheen.

Earlier on Saturday night, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was withdrawn from the police station for assaulting a man who went there to know the update on a complaint he filed over the attempted rape of his five-year-old daughter.

The assaulted man said, “My wife and I live in Dhaka. My five-year-old daughter lives with my mother at our village home. On July 20, Razab Khan, cousin of Shivalaya upazila Awami League unit member Mannan Khan, tried to rape my daughter. โ€œ

On August 14, he filed a complaint with Shivalaya Police Station. But police didn’t take any action even though a week has gone by, he said.

On August 20 evening, I went to the police station with my mother and daughter to know the update on my complaint.

“As the officer-in-charge of the station was not present at the station, ASI Arif asked me why I was at the police station. I told him everything that happened to my daughter but he didn’t believe me. At one point, he took me to a room and beat me up.โ€

When the Superintendent of Police was informed about the matter, a case was registered at the police station.
