Dhaka: The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has announced the formation of an 8-member committee to orchestrate cultural events in celebration of the 127th birth anniversary of the esteemed National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, scheduled for May 25.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committee’s mandate includes devising a comprehensive plan for a five-day cultural program, selecting artists to perform, and ensuring seamless coordination of the events. The directive from the ministry empowers the committee to convene meetings and, if necessary, co-opt additional members to fulfill its objectives effectively.
The committee is chaired by the Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, who will act as the convener, while the Senior Assistant Secretary (Events) of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will serve as the member secretary. The committee comprises several other key figures: the Joint Secretary (Event) and Deputy Secretary (Event) of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Director of the Kazi Nazrul Islam Institute, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Mymensingh, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Trishal, the District Cultural Officer, and the District Shilpakala Academy Officer of Mymensingh.
The ministry’s directive emphasizes the need for the committee to finalize the cultural program plan within the next five days, ensuring a fitting tribute to the legacy of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
