Dhaka: The national committee on reviewing harassment cases has once more called upon political parties to submit the First Information Reports (FIRs) of cases to the solicitor of the law ministry by November 30. This request is aimed at expediting the withdrawal of political harassment cases filed during the tenure of the Awami League government.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the solicitor wing of the law ministry has already instructed the public prosecutor and city public prosecutor to provide lists of cases labeled as 'false cases.' These cases, filed against political leaders and activists between January 6, 2009, and August 5, 2024, notably surround the parliamentary elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024.
To facilitate a quicker and more inclusive process, public notices have been issued in daily newspapers. The national committee on reviewing harassment cases has thus far recommended the withdrawal of nearly 20,000 cases.
