Laxmipur: Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee highlighted today that people residing in coastal regions are enduring and overcoming challenges such as droughts, floods, and other natural disasters. He emphasized the government’s efforts to ensure that these communities are no longer neglected or deprived.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Anee made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a food distribution programme for fishermen affected by a fishing ban under the “Hilsha Resource Development and Management Project.” The event, organized by the Department of Fisheries, took place on the Laxmipur District Council premises.
Anee accused the previous fascist regime of subjecting BNP leaders and activists to humiliation, deprivation, and neglect. He assured that the current government is working to prevent such discrimination from recurring. He noted that sudden water surges from the hills can cause severe disasters, while droughts create significant challenges due to water scarcity.
He stated that coastal residents must contend with both drought and floods to survive. He added that the government is preparing for the upcoming monsoon and potential flooding. Anee also mentioned that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been committed to standing by the people and fulfilling election promises since taking office.
The minister pointed out that new projects are being initiated to provide services directly to the people. He noted that the allocation for fishermen during the hilsha fishing ban period has been increased, reflecting the government’s policy towards them.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, speaking as a special guest, remarked that significant sacrifices were made to establish a people’s government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman after the fall of fascism.
