Bagerhat: Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard today detained a deer poacher along with 110 kgs of venison in a special operation in the Sundarbans.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrested individual was identified as Ariful Sarder, 24, from Dacope upazila in Khulna district. The operation was conducted by the Coast Guard's Nalian outpost after receiving a tip-off. It took place around 10.00 am near the Nalian Thakur Bari Ghat, close to the Sundarbans.
During the operation, several suspects, including Mohammad Shahjahan and Mohammad Anu, both associates of the notorious Sundarbans robber Karim Sharif, spotted the Coast Guard personnel and fled, leaving behind two boats filled with deer meat. The Coast Guard recovered a total of 110 kilograms of venison upon searching the abandoned boats.
Upon interrogation, Ariful revealed that the fleeing suspects had used him for the poaching operation. Following this revelation, the Coast Guard handed over Ariful and the confiscated deer meat to the Nalain Forest Office for further legal action under the Forest Law.
