Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today declared the government’s dedication to establishing a discrimination-free, exploitation-free, and welfare-oriented state, as envisioned by the Freedom Fighters (FFs). ‘We are committed to fulfilling the dream for which the freedom fighters liberated the country – the dream of building a discrimination-free, exploitation-free, welfare-oriented and free state,’ he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Yunus was addressing a reception for gallantry award-winning freedom fighters and their inheritors, organized by the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of Armed Forces Day-2025. During the event, he paid deep tribute to the martyrs, freedom fighters, and brave individuals who fought for Bangladesh’s independence.

Prof Yunus highlighted the significance of November 21, 1971, asserting that on this day, the combined efforts of the armed forces, freedom fighters, and the people of Bangladesh led to coordinated operations against occupying forces. ‘The historic operations accelerated our victory. Through the unparalleled sacrifices of soldiers and civilians, we achieved an independent and sovereign Bangladesh,’ he remarked.

He prayed for the eternal peace of all martyrs and expressed profound respect to gallantry award-winning freedom fighters and their families attending the ceremony. He also remembered the martyrs of the 2024 July Uprising, emphasizing its role in Bangladesh’s history and independence.

Referring to wartime operations, Prof Yunus elaborated on how the Bangladesh Forces were organized into 11 sectors, detailing the daring naval commando ‘Operation Jackpot’ and the ‘Kilo Flight’ air operations targeting strategic installations in Chattogram and Narayanganj. ‘These heroic operations will forever shine in the history of our Liberation War,’ he said.

On Armed Forces Day, Prof Yunus acknowledged the inspiration drawn from interacting with gallantry award-winning freedom fighters and their families. Commending the Armed Forces Division for honoring these individuals, he noted the implementation of various welfare programs for freedom fighters and expressed hope for their continuation.

Emphasizing inclusion and progress, Prof Yunus urged the nation to advance technologically, economically, and socially, ensuring an environment where young people can contribute to nation-building despite limited resources. He highlighted the need for a prosperous future, made possible by the sacrifices during the 2024 July Uprising.

‘We want to remain committed to the valiant freedom fighters, martyrs, injured and living students and the people so that by utilizing the opportunities they have given us, we can present Bangladesh to the world as an example of democratic transition,’ Prof Yunus added, expressing gratitude to the Armed Forces Division for organizing the reception ceremony. He wished peace, prosperity, and well-being for all freedom fighters, their families, and the people of Bangladesh.
