Chief Adviser Lauds National Consensus Commission for Historic Achievement

Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today congratulated the members of the National Consensus Commission for their successful completion of dialogues with all active political parties, culminating in the formulation of the July National Charter and its implementation roadmap.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Adviser expressed his appreciation in a statement issued by his Press Wing. The commission, headed by Professor Yunus, was established on February 12 with the aim of implementing essential structural reforms to establish a permanent and accountable state. The commission’s tenure concluded on October 31.



Professor Yunus described the July National Charter as a historic achievement, asserting that it would facilitate the upcoming national election, guide national politics, and strengthen democracy. He emphasized the people’s desire for democratic reforms that prevent the return of autocracy and ensure comprehensive national development while safeguarding citizens’ rights and dignity.



The Chief Adviser highlighted the significance of the self-driven reform processes, noting that no external influence had dictated their decisions. He acknowledged past instances where foreign mediators intervened in Bangladesh’s political dialogues, but after the July Uprising, political parties reached a consensus to resolve their own crises.



Professor Yunus praised the political parties for their collaborative efforts, stating that their unity presented a model of national unity to the world. He expressed gratitude to the political leaders who worked tirelessly to make this achievement possible, calling the July National Charter a unique global example of nation-building during a crisis.



He extended special thanks to Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, members Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Dr. Mohammad Ayub Mia, and Special Assistant Monir Haider for their contributions. He also acknowledged media representatives for effectively communicating the commission’s activities to the public.



Professor Yunus underscored the importance of maintaining national unity to counter divisive forces, stating that defeating fascism and ensuring the country’s future requires collective effort. He emphasized that unity among all political parties and factions is crucial in overcoming the challenges ahead.
