Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has condemned the Aynaghar, described as secret torture cells, as a horrific legacy of the deposed Awami League government. Yunus stated that these sites are emblematic of the brutality established across various sectors by the previous administration.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yunus made his remarks after visiting three Aynaghar locations in Dhaka. During a media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, conveyed Yunus’s sentiments. The Chief Adviser described the scenes he witnessed as beyond description and far removed from humanity, highlighting the severity of what he termed as a “horrible scene.”

The Aynaghar has become a symbol of what Yunus referred to as Al-Jahiliyyah, or the Age of Ignorance, perpetuated by the former government. This statement reflects the Chief Adviser’s strong condemnation of the alleged torture practices and serves as a call for accountability and a move towards human rights and dignity.
