Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today called for moving forward in creating the future world applying the Scouting experience. He made the call while addressing the inaugural session of the nationwide Cub Carnival and the Shapla Cub Award distribution ceremony organised by Bangladesh Scouts at the Chief Adviser’s Office here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Yunus, speaking as the chief guest, emphasized the global significance of the day for Scouting, marking it as a moment of special pride for both Bangladesh and the worldwide Scouting community. He acknowledged the historic contributions of eight scouts who sacrificed their lives for the country, heralding a new era for Bangladesh.
Prof Yunus congratulated the Scouts of Bangladesh on behalf of the global Scouting community for their historic achievements. He urged all scouts, including awardees and participants, to take responsibility for opening doors and creating opportunities for others, highlighting their progress and role within the Scouting movement.
Reflecting on his own Scouting journey, Prof Yunus shared his experiences as a proud scout family member, recalling his participation in the 10th World Boy Scout Jamboree in Canada in 1955. He described this as a transformative experience that allowed him to explore the world and understand himself better.
The nationwide Cub Carnival, funded by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and managed by the Bangladesh Scouts Programme Department, is being implemented across 527 locations, including upazilas, metropolitans, sub-areas, and special scout districts.
During the event, Prof Yunus presented the prestigious “Shapla Cub Award” and the ‘Gallantry Award’ of Bangladesh Scouts to the families of eight scouts who were martyred in the July uprising, acknowledging their bravery and sacrifice. The family members of Scout Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughda, Rover Rohan Ahmed Khan, Rover Tanjir Khan Munna, Scout Sharif Uddin Ahmed Ahnaf, Scout Mahbub Alam, Scout Golam Nafiz, Scout Tahir Zaman Priyo, and Scout Ariful Islam Saad received these honors from Prof Yunus.
