Chattogram Prepares to Commemorate Martyred Intellectuals Day with Elaborate Programmes

Chittagong: The Martyred Intellectuals Day-2025 is set to be observed tomorrow in Chattogram city and various upazilas of the district, paying due homage to the intellectuals who were abducted and killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators on the eve of the final victory in the nine-month Liberation War in 1971. Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), District Administration, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), political parties, and professional and socio-cultural organisations have prepared comprehensive programmes to mark this solemn occasion.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day’s events will include placing wreaths at the Martyred Graveyard in the city’s Pahartali area, a discussion meeting, and Doa and Milad Mahfils. Additionally, the national flag will be hoisted at half-mast on all significant government and non-government offices, while BTV Chattogram center will broadcast special programmes emphasizing the day’s importance.



In further observance, Bangladesh Betar Ctg regional transmission center will air special programmes, and local dailies have initiated plans to publish articles highlighting the significance of the day. The Chattogram District Administration is set to organise a discussion meeting at the Circuit House at 11 am tomorrow, where special grants will be distributed to different religious and social organisations.



CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain will honor the martyred intellectuals by placing garlands at Pahartali Intellectual Graveyard on Sunday morning. Various units of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), its front organisations, Jammat-e-Islami, Chattogram Metropolitan Union of Journalists, Chattogram Press Club, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Chattogram University (CU), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), and Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU) have also planned daylong programmes to commemorate the day.
