Chattogram:The Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), Dr. Shahadat Hossain, has called on residents to consistently remove stagnant water from their homes and surroundings to curb the spread of dengue.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the mayor made this appeal during an inspection of an intensive mosquito eradication and cleanliness drive conducted in the Kazir Dighi area near Sagarika Intersection.
In response to a recent increase in dengue cases, the CCC has intensified efforts in mosquito control, larva destruction, insecticide spraying, and cleanliness, particularly in areas identified as dengue hotspots. Relevant officials and staff have been instructed to monitor these activities closely at the field level.
Dr. Shahadat emphasized that the City Corporation alone cannot manage dengue control and highlighted the importance of public participation. He advised residents to regularly clear water from rooftops, balconies, flower pots, buckets, drums, and air-conditioner trays, and to ensure water does not accumulate at construction sites. Additionally, he encouraged the removal of discarded containers, coconut shells, plastic items, and other objects that can collect water.
He recommended that residents make it a habit to discard stagnant water every three days and to raise awareness among others about the importance of these practices. As Aedes mosquitoes typically bite during the daytime, he advised caution during the day and the use of mosquito nets while sleeping.
During the drive, mosquito breeding grounds in Kazir Dighi and its surrounding areas were identified and eliminated. Efforts included the destruction of larvae, application of insecticides, and various cleanliness activities, alongside educating residents on dengue prevention measures.
The mayor assured that the CCC's mosquito eradication and cleanliness initiatives would continue to be implemented across different parts of the city.
