Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today emphasized that the Election Commission (EC) is committed to maintaining neutrality and not aligning with any political party. “We, who are in the commission, do not want to engage in any politics. We do not want to stand for or against any political party,” he stated, underscoring the commission’s intention to remain impartial.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC made these remarks at the annual general meeting and prize distribution ceremony of the Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy (RFED) held at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital. Nasir Uddin pointed out that political control over the Election Commission has been a significant source of criticism regarding its role. He stated, “This is the biggest reason why the Election Commission has been subjected to political control. There may be hundreds of reasons, but I believe political control over the EC is the most significant factor.”

The CEC further reiterated the Election Commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections. The event was presided over by RFED’s Ekramul Haque Sayem, with general secretary Humayun Kabir conducting the proceedings.
