Chattogram: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today distributed cheques of the grants allocated for all puja mandaps being set up throughout the city to celebrate Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the country’s Hindu community. Speaking at the cheque hand-over function at Public Library conference room in the city’s Laldighi area, the Mayor expressed his commitment to build Chattogram a city of harmony.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CCC provided Tk 5 lakhs to the central Puja Mandap at J M Sen Hall premises, the central pavilion of Durga Puja, while Tk five thousands were allocated to each of the 269 puja mandaps. Presidents and secretaries of the respective puja mandaps received the cheques.

City Mayor said CCC has been monitoring the situation constantly and providing complete support to ensure a peaceful and joyous celebration of the festival. “We want to prove again that we believe in equal rights of all religions, caste, and creed and sincerely wish to develop a society with love, harmony, and peaceful co-existence,” he said.

He called upon all devotees to keep the puja mandap areas clean and dispose of garbage in designated dustbins after the completion of worships to prevent waste-related waterlogging in the city.

CCC Secretary Ashraful Amin, former Councilor Md Ismail Bali, Social Welfare and Cultural Officer Mamunur Rashid, CCC Puja Celebration Committee President Ashutosh Dey, and General Secretary Somnath Das Raju, among others, addressed the function.
