Dhaka: Six cases involving 100 individuals, including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, regarding alleged irregularities in the allocation of plots in the RAJUK Purbachal New Town Project, are set for trial. These cases have been forwarded to a special judge court for hearing, as ordered by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib. The accused failed to appear before the court despite previous orders.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court had previously mandated the publication of a gazette notification to summon the 100 accused, which includes Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy. The court had fixed today for the submission of a report on this matter. Arrest warrants had been issued against all 100 accused on May 25, with a report on the execution of these orders initially due on June 17.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the six cases between January 12 and January 14, 2025. The investigation officers submitted charge sheets on March 10. One of the cases was filed by ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin against eight individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, concerning the alleged abuse of power in allocating a 10-katha plot. The charge sheet was submitted against 12 accused.
Another case was filed by ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan against 15 people, including Sheikh Hasina and Sajeeb Wazed Joy, with the charge sheet submitted against 17 individuals. Additional cases were filed against Sheikh Hasina, her family members, and others, with the ACC submitting charge sheets against more accused than originally charged.
The ACC's actions underscore its commitment to addressing allegations of corruption in the allocation of plots in the RAJUK Purbachal New Town Project, as the cases now proceed to trial.
