Rajshahi:A case has been filed against unidentified individuals following an attack on journalists at Rajshahi University (RU), allegedly carried out by members of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).

According to United News of Bangladesh, the case was filed by Md Munir Hossain, deputy registrar of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall, at Motihar Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Golam Kabir confirmed the case, stating that an investigation has commenced and actions will be taken based on the findings.

Journalists covering the university expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision to file the case against unidentified suspects. They demanded the swift identification and arrest of those involved, urging the university administration to take visible and effective measures against the perpetrators.

Ashiqul Islam Dhrubo, president of the RU Press Club, emphasized that there was clarity regarding the identities of those involved. He noted that footage of the attack is available, and the identities of the attackers have already been published in news reports. He insisted that the names of everyone involved should be included in the case.

Former RU Journalists' Association President Irfan Tamim criticized the decision, calling it extremely disappointing. The attack, which occurred around 8:30 pm on a Sunday, resulted in injuries to ten people, including four journalists. The incident allegedly involved JCD leaders and activists, with university unit Vice-President Ahsan Habib reportedly among them.

The assault reportedly followed journalists taking photographs of locally made weapons, allegedly prepared for an attack on a rival group. The injured journalists include Arifuzzaman Qurban from bdnews24.com, Zahidul Islam from Agamir Somoy, Noor Ahsan Mridul from The Daily Star, and Mainul Islam Raju from Samakal.

In response to the incident, a five-member committee has been established to investigate the attack.
