DHAKA, Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti (BJKS) has
demanded cancellation of the government decision of withdrawing the rebate
facility for passenger trains which will increase train fare.
BJKS made the demand in a press conference at Jatiya Press Club here today.
Secretary General of BJKS Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said if the rebate
facility has been withdrawn, it will increase highest up to 30 percent train
fare.
Giving an example, he said previous fair of “Shovon Chair” in Dhaka-
Chattogram Turna-Nishita train was Taka 345 but it stands at Taka 405 upon
the withdrawal of the rebate facility.
Mozammel Haque urged the government to cancel the decision.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Railway issued a circular saying the decision of
cancelling rebate facility will come into effect on May 4 next. As the BR now
makes tickets available 10 days before schedule, the commuters have to pay
additional fare for the tickets of May 4 and the next days.
